Armed police were involved in two incidents on Huddersfield roads this afternoon.

They stopped cars in Manchester Road, Longroyd Bridge, and Bradford Road, Hillhouse, just before 2pm.

In both cases officers were seen at the roadside with guns.

Traffic was able to drive past the scene of each incident but there were several police cars parked up.

The incidents follow a series of gun-related dramas in the town.

They include armed police arresting two men in Park Road, Crosland Moor, and shots being fired on Sunday in College Street, Crosland Moor.

Armed officers were also involved in searches of properties at Milnsbridge and Crosland Moor.

West Yorkshire Police said the number of police patrols in the town has been stepped up in view of recent incidents and those patrols do include a number of armed officers.
