POLICE are considering if the Kirklees councillor who voted in a budget meeting while in council tax arrears has committed a crime.
Kirklees Council has referred the unnamed councillor to West Yorkshire Police.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “The matter has been referred to the economic crime unit.
“This is at a very early stage and police are working to establish if any crime has been committed.”
It was revealed last month that a councillor owed £523 at the time of a budget meeting , when members voted to increase the council tax bill for the borough’s residents by 1.7%.
It’s thought the arrears have now been fully repaid.
The Examiner has established that it is a Labour party member but no further details have been revealed.
