A POLICE drugs operation has resulted in an arrest – thanks to intelligence from the local community.

Following a month-long investigation a package was discovered at a property in Hazel Avenue, Chickenley, near Dewsbury.

Subsequently a 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Pc Michael Beardsley of the Dewsbury and Mirfield NPT, who is the local officer for Chickenley said: “We are delighted at this significant result as, after considerable amounts of intelligence gathering work, that came as a result of concerns within the community, we have seized a significant amount of suspected drugs from the heart of Chickenley.

“We are confident that this work will not only put a major dent in the dealing activities of local criminals, but also protect the community from the effects of illegal drugs.”

A police search of the man’s house revealed a haul of drugs and cash.

Police say suspected cannabis, bags of white powder, blue pills and cash were found hidden throughout the house.

All of the material seized is undergoing forensic testing.

The 23-year old arrested has been released on police bail.

Police are urging anyone with information about possible drugs activity to ‘Dob in a Dealer’ by calling Crimestoppers anonymously and in confidence on 0800 555 111.
