A TIP-OFF led police to a drugs bust in Mirfield.

Officers arrested a 52-year- old man after a phone call claiming there were drugs at a house at Old Bank Road.

Police went to the house on Monday night and the man answered the door.

As officers spoke to the man, they noticed that he was holding a carrier bag that contained numerous bags of what appeared to be skunk cannabis.

He was arrested and a search of his house uncovered several thousand pounds of suspected cannabis in 35 bags inside the property.

Officers also found other items suspected of being associated with the sale of drugs.

A meat clever, found near the front door of the house, was also seized.

The man was taken to Dewsbury police station, interviewed and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This is another example of the NPT responding to calls from the public about drug activity in the community.

“The police will always follow up such calls and will gather intelligence before carrying out operations to arrest suspects.

“We want to rid the streets of illegal drugs and need the public’s help to achieve this. We would therefore appeal for people to continue passing information to us either via 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111”.
