A body has been found in Ravensthopre.

Detectives have now launched a major inquiry but have yet to determine what has happened.

The inquiry is being led by the West Yorkshire Homicide and Major Enquiry team and a section of the canal towpath off Low Mills Lane has been sealed off.

Police were called around 9.15am yesterday to a report of a body by the canal, near to Low Mill Lane, Ravensthorpe.

Det Chief Insp Mark Swift said; “Enquiries are at a very early stage to establish the circumstances of how the body came to be there, and the identity of the deceased.”

A scene remains in place this morning.

A stretch of the canal towpath off Low Mills Lane has been sealed off for several hours.

The towpath runs alongside the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal and close to the River Calder.

Low Mills Lane runs off the main Huddersfield Road and gives access to a large number of firms.

One worker said: “Police arrived at the area yesterday and there seems to be more activity this morning.

“No-one has said what is happening”.
