Police are appealing for information after a pensioner had £40 snatched from his pocket by a bogus workman.

The thief called at the 76-year-old man’s home in Highfield Crescent, Meltham, at 2.15pm on Saturday and asked if there was any jobs he wanted doing.

The workman then asked for a pen and a glass of water and while the man was distracted the thief reached into his trouser pocket and grabbed the cash before running off.

The thief was seen by witnesses who described him as white, in his mid-30s, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall and stocky. He had short brown hair and wore dark workmen-style clothing. He spoke with a local accent.

Det Insp Stef Wiseman, of Huddersfield CID, urged people to look out for vulnerable neighbours and said anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
