A DISABLED man had his benefit stolen from him just moments after collecting it.

The 53-year-old victim, who has cerebral palsy and difficulty walking, was first approached by the gang on a snicket off Northgate, Almondbury, at 2.30pm yesterday.

They swore at him and made abusive gestures.

The victim went into the Post Office nearby, withdrew his disability benefit and came out.

But the gang was waiting for him.

The ringleader asked for £1 and when the man refused, the thief put his hand in the victim's pocket and stole £15.

Pc Dave McSweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "This was a despicable crime against a vulnerable victim.

"We would ask anyone who saw this gang in Almondbury or knows who they are to contact us."

The gangleader is white, aged 19, 5ft 6ins and thin.
