A MAN and his dog ran off after they escaped from an overturned car in the early hours.

Police and fire crews were called to Leymoor Road, Golcar, at around 3.30am yesterday after a Renault Megane hit a Citroen Saxo and Vauxhall Vectra parked at the side of the road.

The Renault, which police said was travelling at speed, hit the first car and overturned before hitting the second car.

It is thought the driver may have lost control after hitting one of the recently installed speed bumps.

The driver, a man in his 50s, got out of the car uninjured with his dog. When fire crews from Huddersfield and Slaithwaite arrived at the scene, he was in the road remonstrating with neighbours whose cars had been damaged.

But when police arrived shortly afterwards, the man and his dog had fled the scene.
