Detectives are investigating a serious sexual assault in Huddersfield .

Police received reports from a woman in her 20s who said she was sexually assaulted at around 2.30am this morning in Chancery Close, an alleyway next to the NatWest bank in Market Place.

Due to the nature of the offence no further details have been released by police.

The scene was cordoned off this morning to allow the scene to be preserved for evidence.

But officers are urging anyone who may have seen anything to contact them.

Det Insp George Bardell, of Kirklees CID , said: “The victim is being supported by specially trained officers and our enquiries are ongoing.

“I would ask for anyone who has any information relating to this incident to get in touch with police, by calling 101 quoting log 0093 of January 26.”
