Police are investigating two suspected arson attacks on Sunday night.

A Huddersfield fire crew was called out at 9.37pm on Sunday after neighbours reported  a big bang, followed by a car bursting into flames at Row Street, Crosland Moor .

The red Skoda Fabia was parked on the road outside a house and a man was seen running away from the scene.

Fire officers attended for over an hour but the car was completely destroyed in the blaze.

Three hours later  Huddersfield firefighters were called out  to two wheeled bins which had been deliberately set on fire directly in front of a house in Ash Walk, Golcar .

The emergency services  were alerted by neighbours and they arrived to find an intense fire which was spreading to the UPVC windows, porch and door of the bungalow.

Watch Commander Andy Blackburn said: “The fire was quite intense when we arrived, it  had just started to get hold of the property.

“The covering on the windows had already started melting and we were concerned it would spread to the nearby gas box – another two or three minutes and it would have been  far more serious.”

Neighbours stood out on the street as fire officers tackled the blaze. The family inside the house were unaffected. Smoke detectors had not sounded as the smoke had not penetrated inside the house.

Police are currently investigating both incidents.
