DETAILS of a suspect were released today as police stepped up the hunt for a Newsome knifeman.

He is wanted for the late-night attack on a 24-year-old man, injured in Ashenhurst.

The victim is detained in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with a knife wound to his back and is said to be “stable and recovering”.

He had managed to dial 999 on his mobile phone despite being attacked as he walked home late at night.

Detectives in Huddersfield CID would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place between 12.15am and 12.30am on Sunday between Athene Drive and Ashenhurst Avenue in Newsome, Huddersfield.

Police were called by the ambulance service to the location after the victim was found with an injury to his back, believed to have been caused by a knife.

Much of the area remained sealed off throughout Sunday as forensic experts hunted for evidence.

Detectives are conducting enquiries in the area and a suspect wanted in connection with the incident has been described as a white man, with short black hair, less than 6ft tall and slim.
