Police hunting a Huddersfield gunman who left a man fighting for his life in hospital have made more arrests.

And one of the people held will appear in court tomorrow.

A 29-year-old Huddersfield man has been charged with conspiracy to murder and will appear before Kirklees magistrates.

He was one of four people held as detectives swooped at the weekend to arrest people in connection with what they described as a targeted attack in Springwood, Huddersfield.

The victim of the March 11 attack, Arfan Mehmood, remains in a “critical but stable” condition in hospital.

He was blasted in the head at close range as he was sitting in a car in Springwood Avenue. He was shot through the window by what police believe was a shotgun.

One man has already appeared in court charged with conspiracy to murder.

Now detectives have made more arrests.

A 30-year-old man from the Hatton area of Derbyshire, a 27-year-old woman from Huddersfield and a 37-year-old woman from Burton-upon-Trent have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All four remained in police custody yesterday evening.

Another man, Hamed Hussain, has already appeared at Leeds Crown Court in connection with the case. he has been remanded in custody pending a hearing on June 9.

Hussain, 24, of Clara Street, Hudders-field is accused of conspiring to murder Mr Mehmood who is still in hospital after being shot in the head earlier this month.

Police have made a number of previous arrests in connection with the attack and armed officers have mounted operations in Birkby, Brighouse and Paddock.

They have made a fresh appeal for help and anyone who can help with more information about the incident, which occurred in Springwood Avenue at 9.30pm on March 11 is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
