HUDDERSFIELD police are appealing for a van driver to contact them after a pedestrian was seriously hurt in a road accident.

The 36-year-old Golcar man was injured in a collision with a black VW Polo at 10.15pm on Friday in Bradford Road, near its junction with Alder Street, Fartown.

The car driver stopped and the emergency services were called.

The casualty, who has not been named, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, then to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was treated for head wounds, a broken right leg and a broken collarbone. He was today said to be stable.

A van swerved to avoid the man seconds before the accident and police want to trace its driver. The driver is not in any trouble. Phone 01484 436847.
