Part of that road and a long stretch of Dewhurst Road was sealed off with police tape, as was an alleyway running from the road into Blackhouse Road.
Police said they were investigating reports of an ‘affray’.
Eye-witnesses talked of seeing men armed with what may have been baseball bats.
Det Insp George Bardell of Kirklees CID said there had been a collision between a black Audi car, which contained at least two people. and a Mitsubishi Shogun which was being driven by a man.
A second car, a blue Vauxhall Corsa, was also involved in the incident, and it is unclear how many were in that car. Both the Audi and Corsa left the scene.
No-one has yet handed themselves in to the police.
Det Insp Bardell said: “We already have a number of witnesses but anyone who was driving past and saw anything we would be interested in speaking to them.”
Anyone who can help should call police via 101.
