A MAN leapt over the counter at a police station and stabbed an officer.

The policeman, who is in his 20s, was at Wood Green police station in north London when the man came in at 3.15am yesterday.

He leapt over the front counter and stabbed the officer in the stomach before fleeing.

An ambulance took the officer to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Police are said to be keeping an open mind about the motive behind the attack.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and is in custody at a north London police station.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Police are particularly keen to trace anyone who saw a man about 6ft tall.

He is described as having a shiny complexion and a stubbly goatee beard.

The man is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s and was seen loitering near the police station just before the stabbing.
