Poppy petals will be released over an audience at Huddersfield Town Hall for the first time ever.

The moving tribute will happen during the silence at a Festival of Remembrance concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on Friday, November 6. It will start at 7.15pm.

The concert featuring the band of the Yorkshire Regiment playing music from well-known films, Frank Sinatra and some original military pieces will raise money for three charities.

These are the Mayor of Kirklees chosen charity – Diabetes UK, The Royal British Legion and Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.

The concert will also feature the Scots Guards Association Pipers along with music from films Lawrence of Arabia, Schindler’s List, and Last of the Mohicans.

Mayor of Kirklees Clr Paul Kane said: “For the first time ever, I believe, we will be releasing poppy petals from the concert hall ceiling during the silence, similar to the event at the Royal Albert Hall.”

Meanwhile, The British Army’s Kings Division Band with their stunning fanfare team, join Brighouse & Rastrick Band to help launch the local Poppy Appeal for Royal British Legion on Saturday. October 24 in Huddersfield Town Hall.

Apart from military touches in the choice of music the programme also reflects the 70th anniversary of this iconic massed band series of concerts that have anchored Brighouse & Rastrick’s annual promotions since 1945.
