A TEMPORARY footbridge over the river in Holmfirth town centre is to be made into a permanent structure.
Work will start next month, with a completion date set for the end of November.
The temporary footbridge was put up over the River Holme at Norridge Bottom when roadworks were carried out on nearby Victoria Bridge.
But it proved so popular that residents and shoppers campaigned for it to stay.
Holme Valley South Conservative councillor Ken Sims said: "The temporary bridge has been much used over the last two years, and the ward councillors are delighted that it is now to be made into a permanent structure."
He said it would benefit residents, visitors and businesses.
