A HARD-HITTING campaign will try to make sure motorists get the message about using seatbelts and child seats.

The Seatbelt - Live With It campaign is being launched by Kirklees Council.

Four other councils are joining forces for the 18-month scheme.

Adverts will go on the back of buses to get the message across to drivers.

The adverts carry an image of a child's teddy bear lying on the bonnet of a car in a pool of blood.

Safety chiefs are launching the campaign after surveys outside 20 schools showed that more than half the children travelling to and from school by car were not wearing seatbelts.

Terry Brown, Kirklees's assistant director for environment and transport, said: "By complying with the law, people wearing seatbelts might be less seriously hurt in car crashes."

The four other councils taking part in the campaign are Calderdale, Bradford, Oldham and Rochdale.
