POWER supplies to dozens of homes in Birkby were cut last night.
Engineers had to switch off supplies to many properties after an underground cable developed a serious fault.
And they today apologised to many families in the area, who were celebrating Eid and had to carry on partying in the dark for 30 minutes.
A spokesman for YEDL, the electricity distribution company, said: "We were alerted to a fault in an underground mains cable in Lyndale Avenue at 9pm.
"The problem needed an emergency repair and the only safe way to do that was to cut off supplies. The shutdown affected homes in Storths Road, Heathdale Avenue, Lyndale Avenue and Bromley Road.
"We did get complaints because many people were celebrating Eid with their families and friends, but we were able to restore supplies by 9.35pm."
