Around 2,000 homes and businesses in the Holme Valley are without electricity due to a major fault which is affecting more than 40 sub stations.
The fault was reported to Northern Powergrid at 5.40pm.
The cause of the fault is not yet known.
Power has been restored to 373 properties by network switching.
Northern Powergrid expect to have power fully restored to all customers by 7.40pm tonight and apologise for any inconvenience.
