SPORTS chiefs have been praised for their efforts to promote racial harmony in sport.
Kirklees is one of only six councils in the country to win an award aimed at getting new standards.
David Morby, assistant head of culture and leisure services, said: "We have a clear plan which identifies the actions needed over the next three years to move forward in this particular area of sport and recreation.
"The development of ethnic minority coaches and working to improve standards within sports clubs to encourage wider participation and involvement are two projects which have proved successful."
The assessments are carried out by officials from the Audit Commission and the Local Government Association.
