HUDDERSFIELD mums-to-be are being invited to log-on to a new website section for pregnancy advice.

NHS Direct has launched a new pregnancy and childbirth zone on its website as part of a scheme to create specific health areas for patients to follow.

The new section covers everything women need to know about having a baby – from antenatal care and pregnancy services to nutritional information and birthing advice.

Real-life videos following parents-to-be will also be available and there will be an interactive calendar telling mums what to expect during their 40 weeks of pregnancy.

There is also an NHS Direct link with social networking site Facebook so people can join in with discussions, get regular updates and watch even more pregnancy videos.

Adrian Reyes Hughes, associate clinical director of health and health service information, said: “The NHS Direct website has expanded considerably in the past few years.

“Adding health zones to the website allows us to group relevant information in one place, and provide users with easy access to the wealth of information on the website.”

A children's health zone has also been added, along with a re-designed health magazine section with even more interactive tools and the latest health and medical news.

Further zones on medicines, exercise and healthy eating zones are also planned for 2008.
