Police sealed off the grounds of a health centre after a woman was attacked.
The incident in the grounds of the Princess Royal centre on Greenhead Road opposite Greenhead Park – which had hosted the popular Huddersfield Carnival – happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday.
It is believed a woman suffered a serious sexual assault.
The grounds were sealed off by police who stood guard all yesterday sun as the investigations continued.
Det Insp Andy Parr from Kirklees CID said: “We are dealing with an alleged serious incident at that location.”
The Examiner revealed on Saturday that the centre has fallen into disrepair and will close as it would cost up to £10m to repair.
The building is the former maternity hospital from July 1928 until it closed in 1984 and since then has been the base for a range of community services including the Ellerslie Centre for pre-school children with special needs, a dental clinic and podiatry which alone has 12,258 on its books.
Anyone with any information about Saturday’s incident should contact detectives via the main police switchboard on 101.
