A DRUG dealer from Huddersfield is back behind bars.

Barry Calvert, 31, has been jailed for four years after police found hundreds of pounds worth of ecstasy at a house in Dalton.

Officers seized just over 36 grammes of the 79% pure drug when they executed a search warrant at the property in Staines Croft four months ago.

The Class A drug was estimated to be worth around £700, but Bradford Crown Court heard that its high purity meant it could have been cut with other substances to increase its value.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that Calvert was on licence at the time of the drugs offence after being released from a previous prison term in November last year.

Calvert, of Coppice Drive, Netherton, pleaded guilty to possessing the Ecstasy with intent to supply and possessing a small quantity of cocaine.

Prosecutor David Garnett said in 2001 Calvert was jailed for 30 months for drugs offences involving cocaine.

Last month Calvert was given a 12-week prison sentence by Dewsbury magistrates for an offence of common assault.

Judge Jonathan Rose told Calvert that he had done the best thing by telling the police where to find the drugs and pleading guilty at the first opportunity.

But he said Calvert was “an entrenched drug user’’who had turned his hand to supplying drugs and the sentence in 2001 had not deterred him.
