PRISONERS have given a helping hand - to the police.
Inmates at Wakefield jail have made Braille identity cards for the National Crime Squad.
They will help blind people and those with poor eyesight to check credentials more easily.
The cards were made by prisoners at a unit which transcribes text on any subject into Braille.
Wakefield prison officer Steve Hobson said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for us to work in partnership with the police and meant the prisoners were giving a little something back to society."
He said visually-impaired people had the same rights as others to check they were not being duped by bogus callers.
