PEOPLE in Kirklees who want to put something back into their communities are being invited to become prison watchdogs.
The independent monitoring board (IMB) at Wakefield Prison is seeking new members.
Being an IMB member takes up an average of four half-days a month.
The work involves regular visits to the prison, monitoring how it runs.
Members are also asked to attend meetings and adjudication hearings at the prison and report back to the board.
If prisoners have problems they cannot resolve with the authorities an IMB member can be called in to investigate.
People from all backgrounds and ages can apply and full training is given.
There are more than 1,800 unpaid volunteers attached to some 150 prisons and immigration centres across England and Wales.
