TWO students from Huddersfield Technical College have shared a prize to mark their outstanding achievements.

Lynne Duley, from Waterloo, and Carol Pigford, of Holmfirth, have been given the college's annual Molly Spedding Award.

The award, in memory of Mrs Spedding, from Shelley, is presented every year to students who have shown great commitment to improving their basic skills.

Mrs Spedding pioneered a lot of working basic skills and as a tribute to her, her family gave a prize of £50 a year for 10 years.

Lynne started Return to Learn classes in English in 1999 and has steadily worked her way up. This year she completed her English GCSE exam.

Carol, who began a creative writing course, also went on a Return to Learn English group. She, too, did a GCSE exam this year.

Both are waiting for their results.
