Kirklees Council has set up projects to deal with youngsters boozing and causing trouble.

It is launching a Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) to target underage alcohol-related problems in Lindley, Marsh, Paddock, and will also launch another in Cleckheaton.

The partnerships will involve Kirklees Community Safety working with shops, pubs, enforcement agencies, schools and parents to reduce the access young people have to alcohol and to inform them about sensible drinking limits.

The new partnerships will build on existing work by the council’s trading standards service and local police teams and will follow the recommendations of the government’s alcohol strategy.

Derek Lewis, Chair of Community Partnerships, said: “I am delighted at the launch of two community Alcohol Partnerships in Kirklees. They are a tried and tested way of driving down underage drinking and creating better, safer and friendlier neighbourhoods.”

Both launches will take place on Friday (July 18) from 10am-12pm at the Community Room, Greenhead Park, Huddersfield and from 2pm-4pm at the Aakash Restaurant, Cleckheaton.

Those attending will be Chief Inspector Mick Lawrenson and Sgt Andrew Lockwood from West Yorkshire Police; Kirklees Community Safety Manager Chris Walsh; Tony Cooke, Head of Health Improvement at Kirklees Council Public Health; Alan Simpson, CAP Co-ordinator; and David Smith who is representing the Crime Commissioner’s Office.
