BIG-HEARTED volunteers are planning to make sure a village's Christmas lights are better than ever.

Enthusiastic helpers have been working through the year on their plans for Slaithwaite.

Now, they are about to unveil their ideas.

And villagers are being told they won't be disappointed, with a display better than last year promised.

Janet Jobber, who chairs Slaithwaite Community Association, said: "We have plenty of lights to put up."

The plans will be revealed when the community association holds its annual meeting.

Villagers are urged to go along and learn the details at the community centre in Bankgate on Monday, October 6, starting at 7.30pm.

The big switch-on is set for Friday, November 28, when Kirklees Mayor Clr Barbara Allonby has promised to attend.

Mrs Jobber said: "It's not too late for people to join in the preparations. We really need people to help, especially on the night.

"Last year we were overwhelmed with the number of people who turned out to see the switch-on. We need more stewards to ensure everyone is safe."

People who would like to help should go along to the meeting or phone Mrs Jobber on 01484 843071.
