A proud pensioner who refused offers of help from various services was found on the floor of her home after falling.

A Huddersfield inquest heard that Elaine Haigh, 75, of Pond Close, Taylor Hill, had few friends and latterly little contact with her son and his family in Warwickshire.

A couple of years ago she started to get home wine deliveries two or three times a month. She subsequently had falls, breaking her foot and shoulder.

Gateway to Care and medical services offered help, but Mrs Haigh was an “immensely proud” woman. On August 8 she was found on the floor of her home and taken to hospital, where she later died following an operation on her hip.

At the time of her death, she was alcohol dependent and had chronic anaemia and pneumonia.

Coroner Oliver Longstaff said that Mrs Haigh was of sound mind and recorded that she had died due to an accident.
