COMMUNITY safety, policing, health and town centre issues will be the key topics to be put under the spotlight of Kirklees Council's area committee covering Huddersfield.

The committee, chaired by Clr Linda Wild, is one of a network across Kirklees aimed at involving local people in issues and decisions at local level.

The Huddersfield committee takes in Dalton, Newsome, Deighton, Paddock, Lindley, Birkby, Crosland Moor and Almondbury wards.

The committee has set up three sub-groups to concentrate on key areas of work.

Clr Ken Smith will lead a group on community safety and policing issues, Clr Mohammed Sarwar will head one on health issues and Clr Tony Woodhead will take the chair on town centre issues.

Clr Wild said: "The sub- groups will get up and running very quickly, with the intention of putting something meaningful about the key activities identified to the next meeting of the committee in September.

"Public involvement is crucial to our work," added Clr Wild.

"We want to know what people think are the important issues affecting their locality. I would urge people to let us know their views."

Huddersfield councillors can be contacted through the members' services section at Crown Court Building in Princess Street, Huddersfield.
