A HUDDERSFIELD pub has narrowly missed out on becoming Britain's best boozer.
The Star at Folly Hall reached the regional final of the Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) National Pub of the Year contest.
The Albert Street pub was beaten to the Central and Northern England Super Regional title of the competition by The Marquis of Granby in Granby, Nottinghamshire.
As reported in the Examiner, the Star was recently crowned Yorkshire Camra Pub of the Year for 2003. The accolade marks a remarkable change in fortunes for the Star, which was re-opened in 2002 after being shut for two years.
The overall winner of the Camra competition will be announced on February 21, when the winning pub will be presented with the award.
