KIRKLEES pupils have been given the chance to follow in the footsteps of Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell.

They are taking part in the first Schools Top 10 Singles Chart, which could make or break upcoming British acts.

They will have the chance to debate the merits of 10 new acts, including former Busted member Matt Willis, Mobo- nominated Keisha White and Lil' Chris, from Channel 4's Rock School.

The pupils will be asked to develop an argument for their favourite track and will then receive a token for a free single or download.

As part of the scheme - to celebrate National Music Week - they will also be able to use cutting edge software to remix the featured songs.

Rawthorpe High School and Heckmondwike Grammar are among 2,000 schools across England taking part.
