YOUNGSTERS from four Huddersfield schools sampled a range of sports at a special fun day.

Eleven-year-olds from Kirkheaton Primary School, Lepton CE School, Rowley Lane School at Lepton and Upper Whitley Junior and Infant School took part in the event at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

They tried out trampolining, hockey, swimming, rock climbing and football.

Fun day co-ordinator Garry Valentine said the event organised as part of efforts to combat childhood obesity by encouraging youngsters to take up sport.

It also gave the children a chance to get to know each other before they all move up to King James's School next term.

The sports centre will be running its Rascals Play Scheme from 9am to 3.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays during the summer holidays.

The sessions start next Monday. Telephone 01484 223630 for details.
