A NEW sponsor is being sought for the Galpharm Stadium's south stand.
The stand, which has 4,277 seats and accommodates visiting supporters when Huddersfield Town play at home, has been without a sponsor for the past few years.
Now stadium chief executive Ralph Rimmer hopes that a new sponsor will want to put their name to the stand - to complete a quartet of stand sponsors alongside John Smiths Brewery, Lawrence Batley and Panasonic.
Mr Rimmer said circumstances were ideal to hunt for a new sponsor - as activity at the town's leading sporting venue picks up pace.
He said: "The past 18 months alone have seen the stadium re-named, the catering contractors changed and the launch of a major construction and extension scheme.
"We have also welcomed two major rock concerts - one featuring Blue, Girls Aloud and Darius in 2004 with Elton John and Lulu to look forward to this summer.
"In addition, we have also relaunched the upgraded stadium golf driving range and our hotel operation, Stadium Inn."
A new sponsor would also benefit from an association with Town and Huddersfield Giants.
Mr Rimmer said the south stand was sponsored for eight years by holiday retailer Travelworld.
He said: "This company, which became a major player in the industry operating 120 branches, formed an extremely successful partnership with the stadium.
"However, once the company was bought out by Airtours plc, the Travelworld brand was dropped and the sponsorship curtailed.
"It is rare that these opportunities become available, but this chain of events has meant that the sponsorship of the south stand has now become available."
Mr Rimmer said the stadium had "more exciting projects planned" for coming years - and allow a sponsor to enjoy its association to the full.
