AN UNUSUAL fire in a quarry made life hard for fire crews this weekend.
A 20ft by 40ft mechanical crushing and grading machine at Johnson's Quarry on Sands House Lane in Crosland Moor, was spotted on fire just before 6pm on Saturday.
Fire crews from Huddersfield got to the quarry but due to the size of the fire had to call for back up.
The quarry had no water supply which the fire service could use so they called for back-up from Meltham and Slaithwaite fire stations.
The crews spent just over two hours tackling the blaze and bringing it under control.
The cause of the fire at the isolated site is now being investigated.
