While the Queen has two birthdays, Moldgreen centenarian Dorothy Jennings had THREE.

Dorothy celebrated her 100th birthday with three parties over three days.

A resident at Aden Court in Moldgreen, Dorothy had two parties at the home and another with family and friends.

And not only did Dorothy receive a card from the Queen, she also had a visit from Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees Clr Ken Smith and Christine Smith.

Dorothy’s son Gordon Scott, 71, of Almondbury, said: “She has been very lucky indeed to have three parties.”

Dorothy was born on October 21 1914 in Blyth, Northumberland, where her father Thomas Redhead had a boiled sweet factory.

As a young child the family moved to Whitley Bay where she lived for most of her life.

Dorothy, who worked briefly as a receptionist for a physiotherapist, married John Scott in Whitley Bay in 1940.

The couple had a son, Gordon, but later divorced. She married Eric Jennings, who has since passed away.

Dorothy has two grandchildren, Christina and David, and five great-grandchildren.

Her hobbies included dressmaking, cooking, golf, bridge and dancing.

Dorothy left Whitley Bay four years ago and moved to Aden Court to be near her son.

Gordon said what he found remarkable was that Herbert Asquith was the Prime Minister when his mother was born and that she had seen 19 prime ministers in her lifetime.

Maddie Simpson, activities co-ordinator at Aden Court, said Dorothy had a specially-made birthday cake and a surprise visit from the mayor and mayoress, who brought a basket of flowers.

“Dorothy had a lovely time and looked radiant,” said Maddie.
