THIEVES have stolen thousands of pounds of Asian jewellery in a spate of burglaries in Huddersfield.

The intruders have targeted 20 houses in Birkby and Fartown since Christmas and police are anxious for information about the raiders.

Pc Dave Mc- Sweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "It has become clear the burglars are looking specifically for gold Asian jewellery.

"Someone may well know who is responsible.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who has been offered the jewellery for sale.

"Thousands of pounds worth has been stolen and it must be going somewhere."

He said police patrols had been stepped up in the area and known criminals had been targeted by police.
