MODEL railway buffs are getting their new home into shape.

Huddersfield Railway Modellers have found premises at Milnsbridge after leaving their base of 20 years in Moor Road Mills, Mill Moor Road, Meltham.

This month, members started work upgrading the 4,000sq ft first floor site at Stonefield Mills in Factory Lane, Milnsbridge.

There is nearly double the space they had at Meltham which means all five extensive layouts can be put on one floor.

They are busily painting their home and fitting all the necessary electrics.

Club secretary Robert Groom said the modellers planned to stay for two or three years.

"The ideal would be owning our own clubhouse but that's light years away."

An open day could be held in September when the premises are ready.

Mr Groom added: "We didn't want to move from our old premises and we had always got on well with our landlady."

Angela Fieldsend, who owns Moor Road Mills and Meltham Fabrications, is selling the property to move her business. She will sell the mill subject to planning permission but says Meltham Fabrications will continue to trade from a new site.
