It was a different era, a time when Huddersfield Town were a major force in English football.

Having won the First Division title three years in a row, they would then finish as runners up for the next two seasons.

The second of those, 1927/28, ended in heartbreak. They missed out on the title, finishing two points behind Everton.

And they also lost the FA Cup Final, beaten 3-1 at Wembley by midtable Blackburn Rovers in a match Town had been expected to win.

Now a rare ticket from that cup final has come up for auction, with a guide price of £100 to £110. It is among a number of Huddersfield Town items from the 1920s and 1930s which are being sold.

The all conquering Huddersfield Town team from the 1920s

A 92,041 crowd was at Wembley on April 21, 1928, to see the match. Rovers went two goals in front, through Jack Roscamp and Tommy McLean. In the second half, Alex Jackson gave the Terriers some hope, his shot going in off the underside of the bar on 55 minutes. But Roscamp scored his second late on to make the game safe.

Lockdales auctioneers of Martlesham, near Ipswich, will put the ticket under the hammer on July 9.

Other memorabilia from the 1920s and 1930s includes player postcards signed by star players William Henry “Billy” Smith, Frank “FD” Mann, and Fred Bullock. Each have a guide price of £20 to £25.

A ticket for the FA Cup Final in April 1938, when a last gasp Preston North End goal saw them beat Huddersfield 1-0, is expected to sell for between £30 and £35.

And the football life stories of Willie Watson, and Smith, both have guide prices of £25 to £30.

They are all being sold by a private owner.

They are in the Sporting Programmes & Ephemera section of the auction which starts at 10am.

Viewing on the auction day will be available from 8am.
