It was another day of celebration at Rastrick High School, following on from its  best-ever A level results last week.

GCSE results were up 11% from last year, with some 72% of students gaining five A* to C grades, including English and maths.

The 240 students who took the exams also has the honour of posting more A and A* grades than any previous years.

Headteacher Steve Evans, who took over in September 2013 said: “We are incredibly happy and really please for our students.

“They have worked very, very hard and it has really paid off for them.

“The support from parents has been superb and our staff  have worked incredibly hard in a very professional manner to get our students the very best results they can.”

Ciara Ward is the top female student  with eight A*s and three As and is going on to take A levels at Greenhead.

She said: “I am ecstatic. “I have revised every day for at least three months beforehand and it is a massive relief to get these results.”

She added that she would like to pursue a career in medicine.
