A Rastrickman has been charged with the murder of his 79-year-old mother.
Nigel Constable, 51, is due before magistrates today charged with the killing in Lincolnshire.
Constable, of Sherburn Road in Rastrick, was arrested at his home on Wednesday night following the death of his mother, Betty , in Lincolnshire where she lived.
Neighbours in Rastrick told how police arrived at Constable’s home on Tuesday and maintained a presence through the night at the one-bedroom first-floor flat.
They said items were brought out of the flat in bags, including what appeared to be a computer.
Mrs Constable was taken to Lincoln County Hospital from her home in Merleswen, Dunholme, at about 11am last Sunday.
She died at around 10am on Tuesday.
One woman, who did not want to be named, said: “He was a loner. He would say hello to you and once you got talking to him you couldn’t get rid of him.
“He didn’t work.
“He would come out and tidy the litter in the street.”
The neighbour said he had lived at the flat a year and had family in Lincoln.
Speaking of police activity, she added: “We saw him get arrested and then a police van came and officers started searching the flat.
“I saw them bring out what looked like a computer as it was a strange shape.”
Officers carried out initial inquiries after they were alerted by hospital staff and a murder investigation was launched following Mrs Constable’s death on Tuesday.
Post-mortem tests have been carried out, but police have not yet released the results.
Lincolnshire Police have said they are not seeking any other suspects in relation to the investigation.
The village of Dunholme is situated some six miles to the north of Lincoln city.
Former parish councillor Mandy Murphy said: “Dunholme is a sleepy, very middle-class village.
“Nothing like this has happened here before and I was shocked when I learned what had happened this afternoon.
“I didn’t know Betty, but where she lives is a well-established estate of private bungalows.”
Constable is expected to appear before Lincoln Magistrates’ Court today.
