A bed firm has ceased trading with the loss of up to 180 jobs.

Beds manufacturer and wholesaler Kozee Sleep Beds Ltd, based in Low Mill Lane, Ravensthorpe, has gone into administration.

The company’s subsidiaries, Restus Beds Ltd and Hick Lane Bedding Ltd, have also ceased trading following the appointment of administrators from accountancy firm KPMG.

A property company in the same group, Hick Lane Properties founded in Batley, has also ceased trading.

Joint administrators Jonny Marston and Howard Smith, of KPMG’s restructuring practice, said they were now assessing the position of the businesses and considering options for the future.

They said the 180 employees at the stricken businesses have been put on notice of potential redundancy and sent home from work.

Mr Marston said: “Our first priority upon appointment is to assess the company’s financial position and operations with a view to informing our next steps in fulfilling our statutory duties, trying to secure continued employment wherever possible and maximising the realisations available to creditors.”

Kozee Sleep, based in 300sq metre premises on the Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate, was formed in Batley and by 1982 was distributing products under the Kozee Sleep banner.

Its products range includes adjustable beds, guest beds, headboards and orthopaedic beds.

Paula Sherriff, newly-elected Labour MP for Dewsbury, tweeted to say that her thoughts were with the employees of Kozee Sleep.

She added: “I will be holding meetings to ensure adequate support is available upon my return to the constituency.”
