A GOLCAR man is running the New York Marathon on Sunday, November 2.
Paul Rothery (pictured), of Heathwood Drive, will be among an estimated 30,000 runners taking part.
It will be the first time that Paul, 48, has run a marathon.
He said: "I've always run a couple of times a week to keep fit, but have always struggled to get motivated.
"Training for this event has been a real incentive and I'm aiming for a time of four hours."
Paul, who is married to Georgina, has two children, Lucy, 23, and Liam, 21.
He works in an operations centre in Manchester for bank Lloyds TSB.
He is raising money for Sense, the charity for deafblind people.
Paul, who plays for Golcar Cricket Club, needs to raise £2,000 to take part in the event.
A total of £1,700 goes directly to the charity and £300 pays for flights and accommodation.
