LADIES at a charity lunch held at the Rock Hotel in Holywell Green were treated to a gastronomic display – in double quick time.

At the Fixby Friends’ luncheon in aid of the Forget Me Not Trust, the Rock organised a Ready Steady Cook competition.

The 20-minute event was compèred by Holywell Green’s answer to Ainsley Harriot, general manager Adam Hird.

The Red Tomato team of sous chef Adam Rasburn and Margaret Ormondroyd delighted the audience with their roasted hake in parma ham with steamed clams and chorizo sausage, followed by macerated summer berries in mint and basil with a lavender sabayon or light custard.

In the face of this stiff competition, the Green Pepper duo of head chef Ben Varley and Jenny Chilman produced a Thai chicken and prawn salad with baby gem, toasted peanuts and a red chilli dressing.

Dessert was roast bananas wrapped in chocolate pancake with a dark chocolate sauce

And the result was...... a draw!

Adam Hird said: “It was fantastic. There were 108 ladies here for the lunch and they all enjoyed it.

“It is the first time we have had a Ready Steady Cook competition, but it was a great success and we would certainly do it again”.
