EACH light on a tree in Kirkwood Hospice's grounds at Dalton could represent the life of a loved one.

People are being invited to dedicate a light this Christmas in honour of their someone special.

Jane Dutton, hospice events fundraiser, said: "Kirkwood Hospice cares for local people from many different faiths and cultures. One of the things that we all have in common is the desire to remember a loved one.

"For many, a light is a symbolic way to do this."

Ceremonies will take place on Saturday, December 9, at the United Reformed Church, Long Causeway, Dewsbury, at 12.30pm, and Sunday, December 10 at 4.30pm, in the grounds of Kirkwood Hospice.

The name of each person for whom a light shines will appear in the hospice's Book of Lights which can be viewed at both ceremonies and is also on continual display at the hospice.

Those attending the service will also receive a commemorative card bearing the name of each person remembered.

Ms Dutton added: "We would like to say a big thank you to Syngenta who have supported this event once again this year.

"Without the support from individuals and businesses we could not continue our vital work.

"Whatever the reason for dedicating a light, a donation will be a ray of hope to patients and their families needing hospice care this coming year."

For those who want to remember a loved one with a tree light, leaflets are available at hospice shops or from Jane Dutton on 01484 557911.
