WORK to repair a bridge on a busy Huddersfield road should finish tomorrow after long delays.

The strengthening work on the bridge in Leeds Road, spanning the Huddersfield Broad Canal, should have been completed at the end of April.

But it was delayed because engineers found unknown cables below the site.

A Kirklees Council spokesman said: “The work on the bridge on the A62 is due to end on Friday this week. The delay was caused by an uncharted service cable which had to be moved.”

Traffic has been restricted to a single lane during much of the work which started in March.
