A POPULAR attraction in a Kirklees park has been re-opened.

The cascade on Wilton Park lake in Batley has been closed for a major refurbishment.]

It was the major and final part of a year-long project which received a £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and was coordinated by Kirklees Council and the Friends of Wilton Park.

The tiers and walls of the waterfall have been reclad in stone, the pump repaired and a new ornamental metal balustrade put in place at the water feature which dates from the 1920s.

It was reopened yesterday in a ceremony which featured Skelmanthorpe Band and saw water tumbling down the cascade for the first time in many years.
