A HORSE that was due to be sent to Belgium to be sold as horse meat has been successful at a show.

Six-year-old Liberty was due to be sent to Belgium last year to be killed when she was saved by Kirkburton mother Judith Machin.

Liberty came second in one class and third in another at the Dean Acres Farm Show in Morley near Leeds.

Mrs Machin's 15-year-old daughter, Samantha, rode her at the show which attracts entries from across West Yorkshire.

She came second in the coloured in hand class and third in the ridden coloured class.

Mrs Machin's 12-year-old daughter, Stephanie, came first in the novice ridden class on her New Forest pony, Homer.
