SHE was enjoying a night out with her daughter.

But it ended in terror, when a Lockwood woman was punched to the ground and kicked in the face in a frightening, unprovoked early-hours attack.

Julie Brophy, 48, was on her way to get a taxi in Cross Church Street with her daughter Nicola, after a Saturday night out.

She said: “Someone came up behind me and grabbed my hood and punched me and I fell to the floor.

“I didn’t even see his face.

“My daughter was screaming for someone to help us. The street was busy as it was between 2am and 2.30am.

“When I was on the ground I was kicked in the face and was bleeding from my lip. There was blood everywhere.

“He ran off and Nicola chased him but she lost him.”

She said other revellers phoned an ambulance but she didn’t want to go to hospital and went home to get cleaned up and later saw her GP.

She suffered a cut to her brow and bruising to her face and a split lip.

Nothing was stolen during the ordeal.

She added: “We had been all over that night but never had any trouble, it was just a normal night out.

“I am shocked that someone could do this and so is my family.

“I am really angry and it makes me scared to go out at night again.”

Julie’s other daughter, Sinead, added: “Police have said there is no CCTV on Cross Church Street but we are hoping someone who saw what happened comes forward.”

The shocked family are now offering a reward for anyone who can provide information that leads to arrest and conviction.

A police spokesman said officers in Huddersfield are investigating an assault which took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation is asked to contact Pc 2109 Richard Hirst via 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Figures from Police.co.uk showed there were 15 crimes committed in Cross Church Street last month, five of those were recorded as violent crime.
